Mumbai: Alkem Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Alkem Laboratories Ltd., has joined hands with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) to establish a cutting-edge research centre dedicated to immuno-therapeutics and regenerative medicines.
The collaboration aims to accelerate innovation, advanced research, and skill development in emerging therapeutic areas that address significant unmet medical needs.
Alkem Foundation to Fund “Alkem Centre for Advanced Research and Development” at IIT Bombay
Under this collaboration, Alkem Foundation will finance the creation of the Alkem Centre for Advanced Research and Development of Applied Immuno-Therapeutics and Regenerative Medicines within the IIT Bombay campus.

The Foundation will allocate around 20–25% of its cumulative CSR obligations over the next seven years to support this initiative, making it a landmark CSR-driven industry-academia partnership in India.
This strategic alliance merges Alkem’s pharmaceutical expertise with IIT Bombay’s academic and research strengths in biomedical engineering, biosciences, and translational research.
The centre aims to build an innovation-driven ecosystem that fosters R&D in complex therapy areas while bridging gaps in infrastructure, talent, and translational capabilities in high-precision medicine.
Advancing Research and Training in High-Precision Healthcare
The initiative aligns with IIT Bombay’s multidisciplinary approach to healthcare research, integrating biology, engineering, and data science to advance human health outcomes. The research facility will focus on emerging areas such as gene editing, biomaterials, and advanced therapeutic technologies, supporting the development of next-generation immuno-therapeutics and regenerative medicines.
Additionally, the centre will serve as a training and incubation hub for clinician-scientists and biotech entrepreneurs. It will leverage mentorship from Alkem and IIT Bombay experts, alongside global advisors from leading international universities, to enhance India’s translational research capacity.
